When Joe Bouchard was a music student at Ithaca College in the 60s, his brother Albert was a struggling musician living with a rock group called Soft White Underbelly. During school breaks Joe would take the bus to New York and spend a week or two living with the group in their communal band house. Often there were extended jam sessions that would go until the sun came up. Two years later in 1970 Joe was invited to become the band's bassist. After only a year of club gigs and demo sessions, they passed an audition for Columbia Records president Clive Davis. Clive signed them on the spot to a seven record contract.  >> read more

Hello All,
Once again thanks for stopping by my little corner of the cyber world.
Here’s the latest news.
I played some awesome concerts so far this year. Here’s a list of highlights:
» Just recently I played with Camp Freddy, musicians from Guns ‘n’ Roses, Jane's Addiction and other top bands. It was a Hilfiger Sessions event that was taped at Webster Hall in NYC for TommyTV.com. I expect that the show will be posted on YouTube.com soon.
» Back in April I played two sold out shows at the Bearsville Theatre in Woodstock NY with friends, Orleans and singer Robbie Dupree. It was a fabulous experience with the great music and sound of the room was crystal clear. It was great to see many long time friends there.
» For the second year in a row the X Brothers got to play for a great cause, The ASPCA Birthday Party at Union Square Park. Several photos and videos have shown up on the usual websites and YouTube. Sitting in at the gig were many great musicians like Dennis Dunaway, brother Albert, Jimmy Kunes from Cactus, Michael H, Arno Hecht from the Uptown Horns and the Stones, and last but not least, drummer Marky Ramone. What a thrill it was playing two Ramones classics, Blitzkrieg Bop and I Wanna Be Sedated, on a beautiful spring day right on the streets in NYC. What can be more New York than that!
» I headlined at The Chance in Poughkeepsie, NY in a benefit for friends from the Poughkeepsie Fire Department. It was a real thrill. It was great to be back on that memorable old stage. The event raised over $10,000 and all who played had a great time raising money for a great cause.
» Playing a show the 35th anniversary show at Rongovian Embassy with Larry Hoppen, singer from Orleans. This was another awesome time with many old friends in the audience. Also performing was Ron Riddle, who played drums with BOC for 10 years, and Charlie Shew, who played bass with Orleans for several years.
» Probably the most exciting and personally rewarding show was participating in a major concert on April 26 for the retirement of my guitar teacher, Steve Brown from Ithaca College. It was an amazing event where many of Steve’s virtuoso students came back to pay tribute to a man who meant so much to them. The music, mostly big band jazz, was stunning on all levels. I played only one song, but it was a thrill nonetheless.
The solo CD is almost finished. I know I said it would be out this spring, but it looks like a summer release is more like it. I don’t want to rush the final artistic decisions. Details like making sure the vocal performances are perfect, the mixes are up to the mark, and the artwork truly represents the contents of the disk, are important at this stage of the production. In the old days there were managers, producers, and others to scramble around to finish things. Now when you self-produce a CD on your own, you are in charge of everything! I don’t mind the delay, I want it to be right. I’m still waiting on the final artwork and evaluating the best way to sell and promote the songs on the internet. What I don’t want is for the CD to get lost among the tens of thousands of indie releases appear and disappear each week.

The schools where I teach for 8 months of the year are winding down. I’m always on the lookout for the next musical superstar and I have several young candidates that show potential. It’s been a great year so far, but for most of this summer I’ll be working on personal projects.

Upcoming gigs for this summer look promising, but I’m always looking for more. Email me via the CONTACT link above if you have a hot prospect. Serious inquiries only!

Later this summer I’m playing with RPM, also known as Rock and Pop Masters, a group of famous musicians from that include with Jimi Jamison formerly of Survivor, John Cafferty of the Beaver Brown Band, Joe Lynn Turner of Deep Purple and Rainbow, Robbie Dupree, Spencer Davis, Gary US Bonds, and Rick Derringer. I’ll be guesting on their songs and playing the signature Blue Oyster Cult hits too.
